Technical Details
Lunasee Active Side Lighting works by integrating state-of-the-art photo-luminescent film onto the rims of the bicycle. The photo-luminescent component, or Light Emitting Rim Tape – (LER Tape) is activated by LED's strategically placed on the bike for targeting and charging the LER Tape.

There are 3 basic components that create the Lunasee System:
- Power Controller [Controls the LED Pods]
- LED Pods [Charging Unit]
- LER Tape [Photo-Luminescent Film]
The Power Controller plugs into a standard dynamo headlight, powered by a hub dynamo. One Power Controller has the ability to distribute power to the LED Pods on the front and/or rear wheels, as well as the rear light.
One of the convenient features of plugging into the headlight is that all of the switching can be done at the headlight — so there’s only one place for turning on and off the bicycle lights. And, if your headlight has an auto-lighting function, so will the Lunasee System.
Our patented methods and materials give us unparalleled light emission — greater than any other photo-luminescent technology on the market. As the wheel rotates, the photo-luminescent materials are continuously "charged" each time the material passes under the LED — creating nearly 2 meters of active lighting on both sides of the bicycle wheel.
Just as front and rear active lights are augmented with reflectors, we suggest adding reflective tires or two or more reflectors per wheel for times when the bicycle is at rest and the Lunasee Active Side Lighting rims are not being charged.
